Annie Jacobsen is a Pulitzer Prize finalist and the New York Times bestselling author. We are huge fans of her work and absolutely flabbergasted by the amount of detail and research that goes into her books. We have quite the Jacobsen library here are Blurppy Plus headquarters:
- We’ve read “Operation Paperclip,” which as chosen as one of the best non-fiction books of 2014 by The Boston Globe, Apple iBooks, and Publishers Weekly.
- We’ve also read “THE PENTAGON’S BRAIN” which gives you a fascinating deep dive into DARPA and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in history; one of the Washington Post’s Best Nonfiction Books of 2015; one of The Boston Globe’s Best Books of 2015; and one of Amazon’s Top 100 Books of 2015.
- We have “AREA 51” currently on our shelf and in our queue of “books to read.” (It won the Goodreads Choice Award, Best History and Biography)
- Of COURSE we have “PHENOMENA“, which details the secret history of the U.S. Government’s investigations into extrasensory perception and psychokinesis.
- We also have “SURPRISE, KILL VANISH” in the stack next to our bed which goes into extensive detail regarding the secret history of CIA paramilitary armies, operators, and assassins. (Yes, we said “assassins.”)
Her new book may just be, as we said in the title, “the scariest story you will ever read.” The book is called “Nuclear War: A Scenario” and unlike Hollywood’s versions of this scenario in various films, this is all too real and there is no one in capes coming to our rescue. Here is the official synopsis:
In only one scenario could the world as we know it end in a matter of hours: that is nuclear war. And one of the triggers for that war would be a nuclear missile inbound towards the United States.
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These projects are vital to how we understand the world we really live in: where one nuclear missile begets one in return; where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds-notice, with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have.
Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking clock scenario, based on dozens of new interviews with military and civilian experts who have built the weapons; created the response plans; and been responsible for those decisions should they need to have been made. Nuclear War: A Scenario is unlike any other book in its depth and urgency.
“Nuclear War: A Scenario” is available for preorder and is scheduled to come out March 26th, 2024.
