Axiom Space Gives Us A First Look At The New Spacesuit For NASA’s “Artemis III” Mission And Beyond

April 21, 2023

50 years have come and gone but in 2025 we are FINALLY going back to the Moon. (Even we were told to “never come back“… supposedly.)  Artemis III is NASA’s upcoming mission to the lunar South Pole via the Orion spacecraft.  Man has never been to the lunar South Pole so who KNOWS what we will find.  Recently, Axiom Space unveiled their prototype for the next generation spacesuit that the astronauts will be wearing during this historic mission.

Here is Axiom’s official statement about this cutting edge new spacesuit:

“The new Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) spacesuit will provide astronauts advanced capabilities for space exploration while providing NASA with commercially developed human systems needed to access, live and work on and around the Moon. The advanced spacesuits ensure astronauts are equipped with high-performing, robust equipment and are designed to accommodate a wide range of crew members.

Building off NASA’s Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit (xEMU) spacesuit design, the Axiom Space spacesuits are created to provide increased flexibility, greater protection to withstand the harsh environment, and specialized tools to accomplish exploration needs and expand scientific opportunities. Using innovative technologies and a flexible design, these spacesuits will enable more exploration of the lunar surface than ever before.

The development of these next-generation spacesuits by Axiom Space is a significant milestone in furthering American leadership in space exploration, and enabling a deeper understanding of the Moon, the solar system, and beyond.”

We will be glued to the television during this monumental endeavor.  Not only are we going to an unexplored region of our closest celestial neighbor but it will also be the first time NASA has landed a woman and a person of color on the lunar surface and will mark the first step for a long-term, sustainable lunar presence.  Who else is excited for Artemis III?
