DAAAAAAAAAAMN!  I can remember walking into Tower Records to BUY this album the day it came out back in 1998 and NOW it is celebrating its 25th anniversary?  Where the hell has the time gone!?  First things first, let’s break down “Hello Nasty” so if you DON’T know, you will now understand why you should drop some of your hard earned cash and snag this anniversary vinyl.

FUN FACT: The title of the album was allegedly inspired by the receptionist of the band’s NY-based publicity firm Nasty Little Man, who would answer the phone with the greeting “Hello, Nasty.”

Hello Nasty” was the Beastie Boys 5 studio album.  It came out 4+ years after their previous album “Ill Communication” which was in itself, a massive success due to the success of the single “Sabotage.” (What we are trying to say here is that they had raised the bar considerably in 1994 so “Hello Nasty” had some big shoes to fill. Which it absolutely did.)

“Hello Nasty” sold 681,000 copies in its first week, debuting at number 1 on the Billboard 200 album sales chart, and won Best Alternative Music Album and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group (for “Intergalactic”) at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards.

Mixmaster Mike

This was DJ Mixmaster Mike’s debut album with the group and his presence blended perfectly with the Ad Rock, MCA and Mike D.

There, now you know why we are so hyped to pick up this 25th anniversary vinyl of “Hello Nasty.”  Here is all the info on this offering along with a link to pick it up.

Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Beastie Boys’ multi-platinum Hello Nasty album, this limited-edition deluxe reissue is a rare version of the album that was released as a limited run in 2009. Long out-of-print and sought after by fans and collectors, it includes two bonus LPs with 21 bonus tracks (remixes, B-sides and rarities). Widely considered to be one of best albums of the 1990s, Hello Nasty features the singles “Intergalactic” (certified platinum), “Body Movin” and “The Negotiation Limerick File.” It’s loaded with analog synthesizers, vintage drum machines, call-and-response vocals, futuristic sound effects, and almost otherworldly turntable scratching (thanks to the addition of the amazing Mix Master Mike).

Co-produced by Beastie Boys and Mario Caldato Jr., it’s a record that embraces a kaleidoscope of musical influences, with hat-tips to Latin psych-rock, Brazilian samba, jazz-funk, dub, post-punk, and an impressive collection of collaborators ranging from reggae vagabond Lee “Scratch” Perry to Cibo Matto’s Miho Hatori. Hello Nasty exists as a snapshot of a moment in which the trio were growing up without forgetting how to have a lot of fun in the process, too. Pressed on 180g vinyl, this 4LP deluxe box set is housed in a hardcover slipcase and includes a removable sew-on patch.

Here is the unforgettable video for “Intergalactic” the first single from “Hello Nasty” directed by Adam Yauch under the pseudonym Nathanial Hörnblowér. (We miss you Adam.)
