Sean Coleman is the head creative muckety muck at Coleman Design, a Sheffield-based graphic design studio. We came across his work the other day where he created six devilish postcards, one for each episode of the first six seasons of the award winning, hit British series “Inside No. 9.”
Now, if you are not familiar with this show, there are 8 glorious seasons so here is a lil’ insight to the series. “Inside No. 9” is a veritable smorgasbord of the twisted and the terrific, a show where the only thing you can expect is the unexpected. Each standalone episode is like a party where the guests – a mix of the bizarre, the banal, and the downright diabolical – are all hiding secrets. It’s a wild ride through the absurd and the artful, where a game of sardines in a wardrobe can morph into a chilling thriller, and a pair of shoes can tell a tale more twisted than the laces within. Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, the show’s creators, are like the mischievous ringmasters of a circus that specializes in dark laughs and even darker twists, serving up a platter of plots so sharp they could slice through a tension-filled room like a hot knife through butter.
Diving into an episode of “Inside No. 9” is like biting into a chocolate from an assorted box (yum) – you never know what you’re going to get, but it’s guaranteed to be deliciously dark with a chance of macabre. (A REALLY good chance.) Whether it’s a silent slapstick heist gone wrong or a devilishly clever crossword puzzle that spells doom, the show dances on the line between the eerie and the uproarious. It’s a place where the punchlines are as likely to be punctuated by a scream as they are by a snicker, and where the walls of “Number 9” are packed with more surprises than a magician’s hat. So, pull up a chair, but don’t get too comfortable – because in this series, even the armrests might have a twist in store.
Here is a look at Sean’s six postcards for the first six seasons of “Inside No. 9.”
EP:1 “Sardines:” It is the day of Rebecca and Jeremy’s engagement party, and everyone (well, nearly everyone) has turned up to the old house to wish them well. Except that one of the bedrooms, the one with all the old baggage in it, has been left unlocked.
EP:2 “The 12 Days of Christine:” Christine Clarke brings a new man back to her flat from a New Year’s Eve party, and immediately her life starts to unravel. She questions who the terrifying stranger that keeps appearing in the flat at night is.
EP:3 “The Devil of Christmas:” Austria, Krampusnacht, 1977. All the good children are given gifts by St Nicholas, and all the bad ones are punished by the demonic Krampus. Julian and Kathy arrive for a holiday with their family. But who has been good, and who has been bad?
EP: 4 “Tempting Fate:” A dead hoarder’s flat, a blood-stained floor, a dead rat, and a terrible, inescapable curse from beyond the grave are all in an ordinary day’s work for council contractors Keith, Nick, and Maz.
EP: 5 “The Stakeout:” Two police officers always have time to get to know each other on the night shift. But PC Thompson’s previous partner died in a brutal attack less than a month ago, the forensics have gone missing, and PC Varney is beginning to ask a lot of awkward questions.
EP:6 “Simon Says:” Everyone says the Season 7 finale of fantasy epic `The Ninth Circle’ was pretty disappointing, even show-runner Spencer Maguire is keen to move on to new projects. But not everyone thinks that it has to be the end of the matter. In fact, Ninth Circle obsessive Simon Smethurst decides to visit his hero to help put things right.
At the time of writing this, Sean still has these for sale HERE but they are going fast. Huge thank you to Sean for working with us on this. Check out this trailer for the newest season of “Inside No. 9” and go binge the hell out of the series.
