Neon is getting ready to hit the Berlin International Film Festival as well as SXSW Film Festival with the premier of their creepy horror movie, “Cuckoo.” This is writer/director Tilman Singer’s follow-up to his directorial debut with the 2018 German supernatural horror-thriller film, “Luz” and although we don’t see TOO much in the teaser, there is a vibe that leaves us wanting to see and know more.
Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father’s boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen’s mute half-sister Alma.
Something doesn’t seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.
“Cuckoo” was shot on 35mm in Germany and stars: Hunter Schafer (EUPHORIA), Dan Stevens (THE GUEST), Jessica Henwick, Marton Csókás and Jan Bluthardt. “Cuckoo” opens in theaters on May 3.
