"Whatever you do... DON'T OPEN YOUR EYES!"
We are big fans of W-A-T-C-H-I-N-G post-apocalyptic stories with supernatural, horror, thriller storylines, (honestly, we wouldn’t stand a CHANCE in one of these scenarios) which is why we LOVED Netflix’s 2018 smash hit, “Bird Box.” Based off the best selling novel by Josh Malerman, the 2018 film sets the table for what appears to be a whole new franchise with films and storylines set within the Bird Box Universe, or as we call it, ” The BBU.”
It’s unfathomable how insanely terrifying it would be to have to remain constantly blindfolded and exist without the use of your eyes AND if you gave in to the desire to remove your blindfold, you’d encounter a supernatural presence that causes you to commit suicide!
Netflix has announced that the next tale in the BBU is titled, “Bird Box Barcelona.” According to the film’s producer, Dylan Clark, this tale is NOT a prequel. After a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, Sebastian must navigate his own survival journey through the desolate streets of Barcelona. As he forms uneasy alliances with other survivors and they try to escape the city, an unexpected and even more sinister threat grows.
The film’s producers, Dylan Clark and Chris Morgan, recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly and had this to say about the film.
“The events that we see Malorie/Sandra Bullock endure in the original Bird Box are happening at the same time that Sebastian/Mario Casas is going through his journey,” he says. “Being in Barcelona gave us a chance to see how surviving this intense threat in an iconic city poses different challenges.” – Dylan Clark
“Malorie’s journey was just the first chapter of this global, apocalyptic event. As we were developing the original film, we often discussed what would be happening at the same time in different countries around the world. During this extinction-level event for humanity, how would families in Europe, Asia, Africa respond to the mysterious creatures’ sudden appearance around the globe? What unique challenges would people face based on their geography, culture, their politics?” – Chris Morgan
“Bird Box Barcelona” stars: Mario Casas, Georgina Campbell, Diego Calva, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Patrick Criado, Celia Freijeiro with Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo de Castro, Michelle Jenner and Leonardo Sbaraglia and is directed by David and Alex Pastor
We know we are jumping the gun here but where would you like to see the NEXT installment of ‘The BBU’ take place? (Let us know down in the comments section.) “Bird Box Barcelona” hits Netflix on July 14 and we can’t wait.
