Disney is celebrating their 100th anniversary this year and we’ve shared articles about some awesome 100th anniversary collectibles by LEGO, and FUNKO. (Be careful looking at those articles, we’ve spent a pretty penny on both LEGO AND Funko stuff for this momentous anniversary.)
Poster Posse artist Simon Delart is what some would call a “Disney Enthusiast” but even that pales in comparison to his love for The Mouse. (We are leaning towards replacing “enthusiast” with “fanatic.”) Simon has been crafting posters of his favorite Disney Animation Classics recently and it appears he can’t stop. Not that he wants to stop, he is already up to over 40 posters but he just keeps churning out images that bring back tons of memories from our youth were we spent countless hours watching EVERYTHING Disney put out. We will give you a look at some of the art he has created along with a few words from the French artist himself.
BLURPPY PLUS: So Simon, you’ve embarked on quite the ambitious project with these posters. What can you tell us about it?
SIMON DELART: “I started this project two and a half months ago. The first poster I made was Sleeping Beauty, for my wife. While finishing it I had an idea for the next one, Alice in Wonderlands. By posting them on Twitter, I had the good surprise to see that it was very pleasant to people and I had the good (or bad) idea to ask them what Disney Classic I should do next.
And for the past two months, I’ve been making between two and four posters a week, in response to surveys I do on Twitter, where I let people vote for their favorite film. It took a lot of work, time and energy, but I was able to meet lots of new people and re-discover films I hadn’t seen in a long time!
I focus on the Disney Animation Classics only, and I limit myself to the most popular, avoiding sequels etc etc. I see the end of it! I’ve made 43 posters so far, and I confess that secretly I wish they could come to life in any form. Maybe then I’ll go on with the Pixar movies? Who knows?”
Well, our fingers are crossed that Simon finds the time to ABSOLUTELY DO SOME PIXAR POSTERS! Be sure to follow Simon’s
