Chances are, this is the first time SOME of you will have heard about the 1986 thriller, “The Hitcher.” Directed by Robert Harmon, “The Hitcher” is a story about Jim Halsey, (C.Thomas Howell) a young man driving cross-country alone, who encounters a mysterious hitchhiker named John Ryder, (Rutger Hauer). What begins as a simple act of kindness turns into a nightmarish ordeal as Ryder reveals himself to be a sadistic killer.

As Jim tries to escape Ryder’s relentless pursuit, he becomes embroiled in a cat-and-mouse game that spans vast stretches of the American Southwest. Framed by the cold-blooded murderer for a string of slayings, his only help comes from a caring waitress as they attempt to flee from both the law and the hitcher.
