Just when you thought spooky season was done, there is new news about a creepy new film coming to the states, ‘Deus Irae,’ (Latin for “God of Wrath.”) The film is the debut feature of Argentine filmmaker Pedro Cristiani and yes is it about exorcisms but this looks and feels different.
We’re going to be honest, exorcisms REALLY give us the heebie-jeebies but we are looking forward to this one. I mean, these priests are using shotguns, fire and Bibles to do the Lord’s work so we gotta give it a chance right? Give the trailer a look and let us know what YOU think.
Father Javier [Pablo Ragoni] lives a fractured existence: on one side, he assists families who have witnessed miracles, and on the other he belongs to a trio of excommunicated priests [Gastón Ricaud, Sabrina Macchi] who hunt the possessed down to exorcize them under their own terms: with Bibles, fire and shotguns. But when the only way to crush Evil is by becoming something even worse, how much of your own humanity – or your sanity – are you willing to sacrifice in order to defeat the Devil?
Cristiani told Variety, “The goal of Deus Irae was to develop a completely independent film that pushed the visual and storytelling boundaries like no genre feature dared to do, but in the six years that took to bring it to completion, it became so much more: a volatile, highly stylized, fearless film.”
We don’t have a domestic release date yet but stay tuned….
