Two of the most iconic monsters of all time will be joining forces once again in the new movie from Warner Bros. Pictures & Legendary Pictures, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.”
The epic battle continues! Legendary Pictures’ cinematic Monsterverse follows up the explosive showdown of “Godzilla vs. Kong” with an all-new adventure that pits the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence—and our own.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” delves further into the histories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.
Once again at the helm is director Adam Wingard. The film stars Rebecca Hall (“Godzilla vs. Kong,” The Night House”), Brian Tyree Henry (“Godzilla vs. Kong,” “Bullet Train”), Dan Stevens (“Gaslit,” “Legion,” “Beauty and the Beast”), Kaylee Hottle (“Godzilla vs. Kong”), Alex Ferns (“The Batman,” “Wrath of Man,” “Chernobyl”) and Fala Chen (“Irma Vep,” “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”).
Director Adam Wingard was talking to IGN recently and had this to say about the new big baddie from the film.
“We wanted to come up with an antagonist that would both be a match for Kong and Godzilla, and that’s really hard to do. There’s a lot more to this character and how he’s a threat, and that’s going to be something that’s going to be fun to kind of dole out.”
Now there is a LOT to be excited for with this one but we have a question which is…”Who knew Godzilla could run?” Aside from that we are excited to see Godzilla charge up with his all-new “Pink Power Glow.” Yahoo Entertainment cited multiple reasons for the color change.
- First: It pays homage to Toho’s Godzilla 2000.
- Secondly: a newly colored Godzilla will sell more merchandise and action figures.
- Thirdly, it showcases the evolution of Godzilla and his arc in the MonsterVerse narrative by signifying an increase in his powers.
- Fourth reason is that it also differentiates the MonsterVerse’s version of Godzilla from Toho’s antagonistic Gojira, who was recently seen in Godzilla Minus One.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire“ is the fifth film in Legendary and Warner Bros.’ monsterverse and is slated for release in theaters and IMAX on April 12, 2024.
